Google Invests another $250K in Beyond 12

We are extremely excited to announce that Google will make another $250,000 investment in Beyond 12! As you may remember, Beyond 12 was a Google Bay Area Impact Challenge Award winner last year and used the $250,000 prize to design and build its MyCoach mobile app. Beyond 12 will use this new investment from Google to continue to work with human-centered design firm, IDEO, to iterate on the app and model as we receive feedback from students, coaches, K-12 and college administrators. We will refine our initial assumptions about the app and human coaching model, as well as begin the user research and design of our back-end analytics tool, the Alumni Tracker. Thank you, Google!

Community College Free

President Obama announced a plan to make community college free for students for their first 2 years. Under this new proposal, students would be able to earn the first half of a bachelor’s degree or technical skills at no cost to them. We are very excited about this proposal, as it would remove one of the major barriers to college completion – financial need. We also understand that getting students in is only the first step so we look forward to working with the President and others in the field to ensure that the access we grant by alleviating students’ financial burden translates to success – students actually earning a degree or certificate. Read more about the President’s plans.
